From July 15 Oman Airports says that there will be a charge levied for any manual handling of baggage; this will apply to both Muscat International airport and Salalah airport.
Oman Airports will charge a fee for the manual handling of baggage at Muscat International and Salalah airports from July 15. The fee will be charged to minimise the quantity of baggage carried by travellers and to try and cut down the incidence of those bags that do not conform to standard size and weight.
The airport group has said that the new decision looks to increase the efficiency of ground handling services provided through Oman's airports.
The company added that the fee will cover the additional services needed for handling baggage which scanners may not be able to read electronically, or which do not fit on the conveyor belts.
