Menzies and Swissport JV in Oman

Following on from our news item posted on June1, the Oman Airports Management Company has confirmed that both Swissport and Menzies will be part of the new handling joint venture.

The contract will see Swissport, Oman Air and Menzies provide ground handling services at both the old and new Muscat International airports for the period of a decade: this will begin in January 2017, and could create some 500 jobs.
The OAMC has added that passengers can expect waiting times to be shortened as a result of the forthcoming ground handling services.

“The whole motive behind this, that of giving liberty to two ground handlers, is to give better service to the passengers,” explained Aimen Al Hosni, Chief Executive Officer of OAMC. He went on to say that check-in counters would become more efficient also. In terms of training, Menzies will provide its international expertise, which is seen as a big asset to the operation.

Al Hosni stressed that it was important to operate at maximum efficiency as the company geared up for the launch of the new Muscat International airport terminal.

According to OAMC statistics, total passenger traffic has registered an 18% rise, with 10,315,358 passengers processed in 2015 compared with 2014; this sits alongside a 15% jump in the total number of flights last year to 95,116.
