After satisfying the Competition and Markets Authority’s concerns over a lack of competition at Aberdeen airport, Menzies has been allowed to finalise its takeover of ASIG's operations, having initially announced the takeover in September 2016.
Back in December, GHI reported that the CMA had raised concerns that various ramp services at Aberdeen airport could be affected by the acquisition. This was due to the fact that the two handlers were close competitors there and only Swissport would remain as a credible competitor to bid on airline handling contracts. In light of yesterday’s announcement, however, a full investigation into the deal will not be conducted.
Forsyth Black, Managing Director of Menzies Aviation, said: “I am delighted to announce the completion of our acquisition of ASIG. Whilst ground handling is at the core of our business ASIG brings exciting new product lines to the Group giving us great opportunities to further strengthen the aviation business.”
