In fact, passenger traffic at the airport exceeded the record posted in the first quarter of the previous year by some 417,000 passengers, or 3.3%. The traffic performance was positively impacted by the timing of the Easter holidays and an additional leap year day, along with the non-recurrence of strikes which took place in the same period during 2015. The number of aircraft movements rose slightly (by 1%) to 105,844 take-offs and landings. In turn, the accumulated maximum take-off weights once again increased significantly by 3.4% to reach 6.9m tonnes. In contrast cargo (both airfreight and airmail) volumes decreased slightly by 1% to 506,434 tonnes during the first three months of 2016, partly reflecting the general slowdown in global trade.
