
In the bigger picture, this continues the passenger growth trend set during the last two months of 2016. Fraport's cargo volumes rose briskly by 5.6% to 168,556 tonnes. The growing global demand for goods and the timing of the Chinese New Year encouraged these dynamic developments at the beginning of 2017.
Accumulated maximum take-off weights at Frankfurt dropped slightly by 1.6% to about 2.2m tonnes. Aircraft movements
also decreased slightly (by 1%) to 33,900 take-offs and landings. Amongst the destinations which have risen in popularity were St. Petersburg airport (with a 29.8% jump in traffic, to 1m passengers, and Xi'an airport, which recorded a
strong 19.2% surge in traffic to more than 3.3m passengers. Finally, Ljubljana airport in Slovenia achieved a noticeable 21.5% rise.
