The minister has pioneered the air transport market liberalisation that African Aviation Week seeks to promote, having brokered a bilateral air service agreement with Togo this May.
Uwihanganye will outline the Rwandan Government’s Open Skies philosophy in a speech to take place at a VIP launch reception for African Aviation Week at GHI’s African Stakeholders’ Conference on September 11.
African Aviation Week is a joint initiative by GHI, the AviAssist Foundation and AviaDev. The celebratory week will be held under the patronage of the Government of the Republic of Rwanda and in partnership with RwandAir. The initiative aims to unite Africa’s aviation decision makers to agree a tangible plan for delivering on the continent’s much vaunted growth potential. Improving market connectivity is set to be a central theme, with IATA research showing opening up flight routes between just 12 African countries could generate a US$1.3bn boost to GDP.
African Aviation Week will comprise GHI's 4th African Stakeholders' Conference at the Kigali Convention Centre; AviAssist’s Safety in African Aviation Conference; and a wealth of other training events, including a course on airport engineering and international air law and policy.
