DHL says that this US$4m investment was spurred by heavy demand and growth in international shipping on the part of local businesses trading internationally; this was in tandem with e-commerce shipping, as well as Washington state-based technology and software companies and retailers.
Its latest, 26,000 square foot facility will be equipped to process 1,000 pieces per hour and it is sited just outside Sea-Tac airport. DHL's facility will serve Greater Seattle and the outlying areas in terms of pick-up, delivery and sorting operations of international shipments.
This addition will complement an existing 42,000 square foot DHL service centre south of downtown Seattle on the East Marginal Way. This facility handles different types of shipments, which includes international small packages as well as palletised and container freight.
