DHL Express Germany opens new facility

DHL Express Germany has officially opened its new US$37m facility at Hannover airport.

The two hitherto separate sorting facilities, one of which focussed on handling time-definite shipments for national road and international air networks, whilst the other looked after the handling of day-definite shipments for European road haulage, have been consolidated at Hanover.

A production area of 6,000 square metres sits within the new building and a fully integrated sorting facility will be able to process up to 6,000 packages an hour. Some 200 staff are deployed and the equipment provided is of the most up-to-date type, and ergonomically efficient. The Hanover development is another example of a DHL upgrade within its network and forms part of an ongoing programme of change within the logistics company.
