This cutting edge cargo complex covers 43,200 square metres and has a handling capacity of 380,000 tonnes per year. Unprecedented in Russia, innovative systems installed in the new cargo terminal allow the automation of at least 60% of all production processes.
Alexander Ponomarenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Sheremetyevo International, emphasised the importance of the facility: “The significant growth of cargo turnover at Sheremetyevo airport and the rising demands of cargo airlines are owing to the worldwide trend that demonstrates a major increase in air freight traffic volume. By 2024, we expect to handle more than 700,000 tonnes of cargo annually. To achieve this ambitious goal, the engineering and construction of the second cargo terminal, with a capacity of 380,000 tonnes per year, is set to commence in 2018”.
The cargo complex launched this year meets the highest international standards in terms of cargo handling practice. The new terminal is technically advanced and significantly exceeds the level of technical equipment at other similar facilities in Russia.
