Sheremetyevo cargo terminal opens

Cargo Matters
Rosaviatsiya, the Federal Agency of Air Transport, has issued a permit allowing the new cargo terminal at Sheremetyevo International to commence operations.

The airport has successfully completed the construction of the automated Moscow Cargo terminal, which boasts an area of some 43,000 square metres and which has an annual capacity of 380,000 tonnes of cargo.

Implementation of this unique project was carried out within the framework of Sheremetyevo airport’s development and modernisation programme for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the near future. Commenced in March 2016 and completed in July 2017, the construction works were actually executed within a very short space of time.

The new cargo terminal is equipped with an automated seven-tier system of cargo rack storage and handling designed for 3,198 pallets. There is a quadruple tier area for container storage equipped with an automated ULD processing system with a total capacity of 576 storage bins, including 60 storage bins intended to store ULDs with temperature-sensitive cargo ranging between 2 and 8°С. Altogether, 13 conveyor lines reach the aerodrome and there are 29 cargo acceptance/pick-up points equipped with dock levellers and shelters, two of which are intended to handle oversized cargo (including cars), whilst two are aimed at the acceptance of express shipment items.
