Overall, the airport handled more than 260,000 tonnes of cargo in the period, some 30% more compared with the same period last year. Additionally, the volume of mail increased by 42.4% to reach 30,000 tonnes.
Because of the significant increase in cargo turnover on international flights this year, air freight volume also grew rapidly. Thus, the volume of international freight shipments handled by Moscow Cargo during the first 11 months of this year increased by 60.8% compared to the same period in 2016; and their share in company's total turnover accounted for more than 65%. These results tend to underline the intensive growth of international freight traffic at the airport in particular and in Moscow in general. As for the domestic flights, an insignificant cutback in freight traffic (-2.95%) was also recorded.
The period witnessed sustained growth of air cargo volumes on international flights operated through the station (up 80% in the first 11 months of 2017 against the same period of 2016) and in terms of imports (which were up by 44%).
The most popular international routes, accounting for more than 50% of the total freight traffic, were China, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France and the US. Other high traffic countries included the UK, India, Israel, Thailand and South Korea.
As for the cargo flow on the domestic flights, the Far East (Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) remained the busiest direction, as was the case last year.
