Amongst other things, dnata has invested in expansion at existing warehouses and in technology to streamline the process flows at Glasgow, Birmingham, East Midlands, Newcastle and Gatwick airports, whilst moving its Manchester warehouse to a larger facility. This has had the effect of increasing its cargo capacity to 250,000 tonnes across the six airports, and has helped to create 120 jobs.
The Dubai-based company currently operates in seven airports in the UK, including London's Heathrow. Its expansion comes as some British airports have been showing healthy growth, despite a 1.6% decrease in total cargo handled across the country's 25 main hubs last year.
East Midlands airport handled the most cargo after Heathrow, increasing by 1% to 266,968 tonnes whilst Glasgow ranked eleventh, handling 11,837 tonnes.
Glasgow and Birmingham grew their volumes at 24.6% and 19.7% respectively whilst cargo volume at Gatwick decreased by 0.9%.
Last year dnata's profits rose by 1.2% whereas the company's cargo handling division's revenue grew by a healthy 8%.
