Increased rates for Frankfurt ground staff

A new wage deal has been agreed by Spanish ground handler, Acciona, and the Verdi union on behalf of Frankfurt airport ground staff.

In accordance with the new agreement, workers will receive a €1.15 per hour pay rise in three stages, with the first part backdated to January 1. The Verdi union, which represents 800 ground service workers at FRA, has said that the deal equates to a 9% increase in hourly rates, on average. As well as increased wages, workers will receive an additional day of annual after five years, and one more after six years.

Negotiations were complicated by the pending conclusion of Acciona’s ground services concession at Frankfurt airport, Verdi said.

Currently, Acciona is bidding against two other handling companies for the new contract, with additional issues due to be negotiated if they are successful in winning the tender.
