The adjective typhlographic relates to aiding visually disadvantaged people by way of relief maps and contours and these interactive maps have been installed near the entrance to the departures hall, at the departure hall bus stop, in the arrivals hall and in the airport's train station. The project was implemented with the co-operation of the Chance for the Blind Foundation.
Chopin's typhlographic maps have convex lines representing walls, paths, symbols and objects, feature descriptions in Braille and are equipped with buttons that can be pressed to receive voice messages in both Polish and English.
The colours used on the map have been specifically chosen to aid visually impaired and colour blind travellers and all of the features are designed to make it as easy as possible to navigate the airport.
Finally, passengers who have downloaded the Your Way app can also access the maps and voice messages on their own devices, thanks to the use of Bluetooth low-energy beacons.
