Lufthansa launches ‘Lounge Shopping’ at Frankfurt airport

Fraport and Lufthansa have joined forces to develop a new hassle-free, digital shopping experience for travellers at Frankfurt airport.

Using the ‘Lounge Shopping’ platform, passengers can use iPads to make online purchases from a wide range of exclusive products from airport shops, including travel essentials, spirits and clothing – with further additions to the range planned for the coming months. Using this joint service platform – the first to be available in selected Lufthansa lounges at Frankfurt airport – users can expect to have their chosen goods delivered within half an hour; a truly effortless shopping experience.

As well as the provision of ‘Lounge Shopping’ for departing travellers, a new ‘Inflight Shopping’ service for arriving passengers is planned for launch during the first quarter of this year. Lufthansa passengers on board long-haul flights to Frankfurt will be able to buy products from airport stores while in the air and collect their goods at the arrival gate directly after landing.

Lufthansa and Fraport also have plans in the pipeline to introduce the new ‘Taste & Travel’ gourmet service, which will enable passengers to have meals of their choosing delivered to their departure gate. Ordered using tablet devices available in the check-in areas and near security checkpoints, these meals will be delivered in high quality, heat-insulating containers to enable travellers to take them on board and enjoy them at an altitude of several thousand feet, following takeoff.
