ASL and ASD choose GLC for centralised load control services

Remote Aviation Services pioneer Global Load Control (GLC) is excited to announce its latest partnership with two new ground handlers in Germany.

GLC will be providing centralised load control services for Airport Services Leipzig (ASL) and Airport Services Dresden (ASD), both of which are subsidiaries of the Lufthansa Group.

It will be taking over the in-house CLC services of charter clients: TUIfly, European Air Charter, FlyEgypt, Nouvelair, Tunisia, Pegasus Airlines and SunExpress.

Earlier this month GLC handled its first flight for SunExpress from Leipzig to Antalya. The inaugural loadsheet was handled by load controller Cooper Mahlangu based at GLC’s Cape Town head office.

Since the pandemic ground handlers and airlines have been looking for innovative solutions to navigate the skills crisis engulfing the industry.

Companies are still finding it difficult to recruit and retain staff with the correct level of skills to ensure safety in flight handling. In addition, the cost of training to attain and maintain all requirements for planning and loading the aircraft is increasing and resulting in more ground handling staff being required.

“Outsourcing areas of the value chain to experts in the market reduces that risk substantially,” says Yolanda Bilang Haynes, GLC’s Business Development & Marketing Manager. “GLC allows their partners to use our expertise to support handlers, enabling them to reduce training costs and avoid the stress of securing large staff for ramp handling and weight and balance services.”

She added: “At GLC, we pride ourselves as being the experts in weight and balance and have supported ground handlers by absorbing the weight and balance element of the value chain allowing the handlers to focus on other important areas such as ground safety and security, aircraft loading and unloading, etc. It is through these innovative partnerships that ground handlers, airlines, and suppliers alike will ensure the industry continues to thrive for decades to come.”

Felix Redeker, Managing Director, ASL/ ASD, said: “Our decision to contact GLC for the production of loadsheets at Airport Services Leipzig was driven by the fact that during the Corona crisis trained staff left and for the ones still with the company requalification is time-consuming and costly. We now concentrate on the work on site locally.

“The cooperation in the preparation phase was very professional and we were able to adhere to the agreed timeline and cutover date.”
