Here, AFS expects to handle more than 2,500 tonnes a year for Turkish Airlines, in addition to the cargo it already handles for the airline in Cape Town. Turkish Airlines already operates daily Airbus A330-300 flights between Johannesburg’s O.R Tambo International airport and Istanbul.
The new contract was awarded not long after AFS was announced Best Cargo Handler of the Year in Johannesburg for 2016, presented by Airports Company South Africa at the annual Feather Awards.
General Manager – Cargo (South Africa) for AFS, Malcolm Tonkin, said: “Having served Turkish Airlines in Cape Town since July 2015, we have been able to demonstrate the quality and reliability of our cargo handling services and this has clearly given the airline confidence to award us this additional contract in Johannesburg.”
The handler will soon begin serving Turkish Airlines’ cargo customers at both airports in South Africa.
