Africa Flight Services voted Best Cargo Handler in Johannesburg

Africa Flight Services, part of the WFS group, has been voted Best Cargo Handler of the Year for 2016 at Johannesburg’s O. R. Tambo International airport in the annual Feather Awards.

Presented by Airports Company South Africa, the winner of the Best Cargo Handler award is selected by freight forwarders that use the airport’s cargo services. Votes are cast based on various criteria, including customer service, operational excellence and efficiency and productivity.

After launching operations in South Africa at the end of 2014, AFS now handles approximately 14% of the annual cargo throughput at O. R. Tambo International, amounting to some 40,000 tonnes of cargo handled each year in its 3,000 square metre facility. A 30% increase in export traffic recorded this year is also reflected in this number.

AFS also provides cargo handling services in Cape Town and now holds the accolade of largest cargo handler in Nairobi, according to September reports, after handling over 54% of the 19.4m kilogrammes of cargo processed at Jomo Kenyatta International airport during the month.

Barry Nassberg, Group COO of WFS, commented: “We are greatly honoured to have earned the Best Cargo Handler award in Johannesburg, which is a great tribute to the quality and consistency of service delivered by our local team.” He went on to say that the company considers its growth in Nairobi to be significant and looks forward to continued growth in 2017. “Our presence in Africa is still relatively small but we have a long-term commitment to the continent and want to grow,” he concluded.
