Swissport has opened a new cargo hub at London Heathrow Airport and has expansion plans for other UK airports in 2025.

The new facility, which is located at Building 588 on Sandringham Road and has direct airside access, has 15,000 square-feet of warehouse space, an 8,000 square foot Border Inspection Post and 538 square-feet of office space.

The temperature-controlled facility will process pharmaceuticals and perishables, and is equipped with advanced warehouse management systems and real-time tracking capabilities.

It has three airside doors and two landside truck docks.

Joe Bellfield, Chief Operating Officer of Cargo at Swissport, said: “Our new facility at Heathrow is a cornerstone of our global air cargo expansion strategy. It not only enhances our service capabilities at a critical global hub but also demonstrates our commitment to investing in infrastructure and technology to meet the growing demands of the air cargo industry.”

Swissport reports that its cargo tonnage has increased 17% year-to-date and will expand services by entering Gatwick Airport and expanding at East Midlands, Manchester and Stansted airports.
