
It started operations last Thursday (14 July) and in the first 5 days of operations, Swissport served 67,474 passengers and 501 flights.
At Fiumicino, Swissport was awarded the ground handling business of Alitalia in extraordinary administration in May, and concluded talks with trade unions on 4 July.
It is supporting ITA Airways’ services in Rome.
Calling Swissport’s entry into the Italian market of strategic importance to Swissport, President and CEO Warwick Brady said, “Serving the home carrier at Fiumicino gives us the local market lead and solidifies Swissport's position as the go-to airline partner for complex hub and large base operations, globally. In Italy, we plan to expand to Linate and other airports across the country.”
Following consultations with trade unions, 1,608 former Alitalia employees have been welcomed to the Swissport team in Italy.
