Swissport launches ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport

Swissport International has started providing ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport and expand operations throughout the year.

Operations started with early morning flights by Air France, KLM and LOT at Terminals 1 and 2.

Frankfurt will soon be Swissport’s largest site in Germany and one of its biggest operations in Europe.

Swissport has started operations in Frankfurt with 350 employees and more new staff will be hired each month to accommodate new customers and peak travel seasons.

Recruitment will continue over the summer in preparation for widebody flights, which will be handled by a third-party provider who has been temporarily subcontracted under the ground handling licence until 31 October 2025.

The licence was granted in August 2024 by the Ministry of Transportation of the State of Hesse following a competitive tender.

It is valid for seven years, allowing Swissport to provide ground services to all carriers operating at Frankfurt Airport.

Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International, said: “Our success is a testament to our commitment to quality, reliability, and safety, values that have earned us the trust of both German authorities and our airline partners. We are grateful for their support, especially during the challenges with which we were unexpectedly confronted by one of the losing competitors prior to our start. Swissport is here to stay and ready to contribute to the overall success of Frankfurt Airport in the years to come.”
