Australian carrier Qantas has signalled its interest in outsourcing its handling operations.

Three months into negotiations over its handling requirements, Qantas has turned down a contract offer from its employees and has made the decision to outsource its ground handling requirements across Australia.
With a presence at ten airports in all, this decision is likely to cause job losses across the group: it is believed that around 2,000 staff will be affected by the decision.
Blaming COVID-19 as the root cause of its problems, the carrier has said that it does not expect its operations to improve markedly before 2024. Debate over the decision to outsource has caused division within the company but management have defended their stance on the grounds of economy.
