Prototype electric pushback being tested

GSE Focus
Is the GSE sector getting back on its feet again?

A prototype of a fully-electric aircraft pushback tractor is currently undergoing testing at a major international airport in Thailand. Powered by Danfoss Editron and manufactured by Panus Assembly, the machine has a continuous power of 100kW and a maximum power of 200kW at 4,000rpm.

It is anticipated that 60 of the machines entering operation would save approximately 6,000 tonnes of CO2 annually compared to current diesel alternatives.

The project is part of the ongoing trend to introduce electric solutions to the aviation industry, with direct emissions from the sector currently accounting for more than 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
