Programme for the Annual GHI Conference

Handling Talk
The programme has been revealed for the 22nd Annual GHI Conference in Copenhagen on September 13-15 2021.

Keynote topics include stakeholder collaboration, creating more dynamic SLAs/KPIs for ground handling, digitisation/automation, cargo opportunities, reskilling, GSE strategies and much more.

The Annual GHI Conference marks the first opportunity the aviation community has had since the pandemic to come together and share best practice in-person. Confirmed sessions include:

· The Big Debate: Out of the ashes: defining a comeback strategy for aviation in the new normal. From contactless boarding and digitisation to a reimagining of recruitment strategies and employee engagement, this session will invite key members of the supply chain to identify and champion the winning adaptions that are going to be essential to getting back on track in the new normal.

· Aviation 2030: Ground handling and the apron beyond Covid. The pandemic has proven seismic across aviation - but not terminal. In common with other segments, the ground handling industry is likely to survive, but it cannot afford to return to pre-pandemic norms. From Big Data to lean Six Sigma inspired turnarounds, how do we use the opportunity presented by today’s lower volumes to get ahead of the trends that can shape the coming decade? Christopher Brown, Director, Global Strategy Group, KPMG

· Cargo: The e-commerce boom and how aviation can make it pay. Lockdowns sparked a surge in consumer spending, online with e-commerce notching up 10 years’ worth of growth in just 90 days. How does aviation capitalise on the consumer boom?

· Reskilling: Employee pooling – could it actually work? Ground handlers find themselves walking a tightrope as they attempt to reintroduce the right quantity and quality of staff to satisfy customers and restart plans at short notice. The process is made precarious by intense competition for employee talent from rival sectors and lengthy waits on security clearance/airside passes. Is it time for a paradigm shift? Wolfgang Fasching, Head of Sales & Marketing, HiSERV
