OCS ends grooming contracts at Heathrow

Handling Talk
OCS has given notice that it intends to end its aircraft appearance contracts with clients including Virgin, Delta Air Lines and Qatar Airlines.

Citing ongoing unsustainable losses, it becomes the latest player in the ground handling arena to run into operating difficulties.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, OCS has been running at just 20% capacity, and the company says that the £1.3m monthly loss across its contracts at Heathrow and Manchester airports means that continuation is no longer viable. Despite being supported by the government’s job retention scheme, now extended to October 2020, the company has said that it is also ending its operations at Manchester and Gatwick airports.

The same week has seen Menzies Aviation put more than 300 staff in Edinburgh and Glasgow on notice of imminent redundancy. This comes in the wake of 17,500 staff being furloughed earlier in the year.
