McGee Air Services to be formed by Alaska Airlines

Handling Talk
Alaska Airlines has announced plans to form a ground handling subsidiary that will be wholly owned by the airline.

It is envisaged that the daughter company, McGee Air Services, will provide ground handling as well as aircraft cleaning and mobility services. Initially, the company will provide airline services for Alaska Airlines.

Although independent, McGee Air Services will operate as a vendor for the carrier and will, in fact, compete for Alaska’s contracts in selected cities. As the company develops the infrastructure and processes, so McGee Air Services will evaluate opportunities in terms of serving other airlines.

According to Alaska Airlines’ COO, Ben Minicucci, the carrier has recognised the need to have more options when it comes to ground handling, aircraft cleaning and wheelchair services.

(Historians will be interested to note that the chosen company name dates back to 1932, when one Linious McGee founded McGee Airways).
