Lufthansa to handle its own flights at Munich Airport

Lufthansa plans to handle flights for the group at Munich Airport through the acquisition of Swissport Losch.

The acquisition of Swissport Losch from shareholders Swissport Cargo Services Deutschland and Losch Airport Services München is subject to being granted a licence, the commercial agreement and approval from relevant antitrust authorities.

Lufthansa intends to retain jobs of employees at Swissport Losch and offer them long-term prospects.

As part of the planned transaction, existing shareholders will provide Lufthansa with advice to develop self-handling services.

The airline says that self-handling at Munich Airport will enhance operational efficiency and reliability for Lufthansa’s group airlines.

Jens Ritter, CEO Lufthansa Airlines and Hub Manager Munich, said: “Swissport Losch is a strong company with a long-standing partnership with Lufthansa. The company has outstanding employees who are characterised above all by their professionalism, commitment and service quality.”

Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International says the company is proud to support Lufthansa in its transition to self-handling at Munich Airport, saying, “Our global expertise, particularly at major aviation hubs, will contribute to the operational stability and the takeover of Swissport Losch by Lufthansa provides exciting prospects for Munich’s talented ground service professionals.”
