Lufthansa Cargo introduces active tracking service for clients

Lufthansa customers can now pay to have active tracking devices placed in their shipments, to monitor and control sensitive variables that pose a risk to airborne cargo.

The tracking device itself is deceptively modest; light and compact enough to be installed in boxes, containers or shipments and from there provide the owners with real-time information relating to the status of the shipment. Important data, including GPS location, temperature, humidity levels, vibrations or sudden shock events, is conveyed to the owner in a constant stream of information. The result is better visibility of a shipment's journey, meaning the incidence of mishaps, ill-treatment or fluctuation in strict conditions are brought to light.

Alexis von Hoensbroech, Board Member Product & Sales, Lufthansa Cargo, remarked on the new service, saying: “By offering clients the use of their own active tracking devises we want to make things easier for our customers and make our services even more transparent.”

“On request, we provide the required number of devices, which weigh just 50 grammes," explained Thilo Schäfer, Vice President of Global Handling Management at Lufthansa Cargo. "The shipper can then place a tracker in any consignment and simply return the device by post after the goods have been transported."

In addition to providing customers with their own tracking devices, Lufthansa Cargo continues to operate its traditional tracking service via its website and app.
