Lödige Industries automates Turkish Cargo terminal

Lödige Industries has completed the automated terminal for Turkish Cargo, making it one of the largest and most efficient cargo terminals in the world.

The terminal at Istanbul Airport covers 300,000 square metres and can handle four million tonnes of cargo a year.

Turkish Cargo has now moved its operations from Ataturk Airport to the new Istanbul airport, more than tripling capacity.

The terminal has areas for special cargo including 6,000 square metres of temperature-controlled storage, 2,000 square metres for express cargo, and 500 square metres for live animals.

It also has 5,000 square metres for e-commerce and mail and a 1,000 square metres high-security area for valuable cargo.

The warehouse has 17,000 storage locations, 30 stacking cranes, 15 lifts and an integrated warehouse management with direct interface to customer and freight management systems.

It is connected to the Lödige Customer Care Centre and a local team of experts on site, meaning the systems are permanently monitored, ensuring continuous functionality.

Turhan Ozen, Chief Cargo Officer of Turkish Cargo says: “With the brand-new cargo hub at Istanbul Airport, we are able to combine the highest quality standards with the utmost efficiency, making Istanbul the most advanced logistics centre in the world.”

Philippe De Backer, CEO of Lödige Industries adds: “With our facilities, one of the fastest growing cargo airlines has the ideal environment to deliver top performance day in, day out, whilst being ready for the challenges of the future. We are very proud to have successfully built this beacon together with Turkish Cargo.”
