Freight expectations

Cargo Matters
During the first six months of 2014, cargo volumes at O'Hare International swelled by 8.5% compared to 2013.

Moreover, in June, the airport's cargo tonnage actually increased by 11% when compared with the previous year.

With over 738,500 tonnes of cargo handled during the first six months of 2014, O'Hare looks likely to be on track to chalk up around 1.5m tonnes of freight overall for the year. Currently, almost 30 freighter carriers serve O'Hare and Chicago is the leading US gateway for air exports to China, taking more than 25% of the entire market. With about US$115bn worth of freight handled annually, O'Hare now ranks second amongst all US airports in terms of the monetary value of its air cargo.
