As flight frequencies have dropped at airports around the globe, so appropriate measures have been taken on the ramp. The latest news concerns dnata's operation in Singapore, where it is believed that around 100 staff have been laid off, out of a workforce of some 1,800.
“We have conducted thorough manpower assessments and have made very difficult, but necessary decisions to let some of our staff go," commented a spokesperson for the company. "We have worked closely with the Union and government agencies and ensure that we comply with the government’s Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment. We are also working with the various government agencies to provide all possible support to affected employees throughout the redundancy process. Overall, after the retrenchment exercise, dnata will have a stronger Singaporean core than before. Prior to the exercise, 63% of dnata Singapore’s workforce were Singaporeans. After the retrenchment, 73% will be made up of Singaporeans.
“In addition, dnata has engaged the dnata Singapore Staff Union (DSSU) and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) to share curated job vacancies and upcoming job fairs, as well as facilitate individual career coaching sessions for affected employees.”
