Cathay Pacific Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo merge bases at Frankfurt

As part of a co-operation agreement, Cathay Pacific Cargo is moving its cargo handling operations to the Lufthansa Cargo Centre at Frankfurt airport.

The relocation is part of the Joint Business Agreement between Cathay Pacific Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo that was announced in May last year and the integration of freight handling for imports and exports was concluded on January 17 2017.

Already collaborating on network planning, sales and service expansion, the airlines intend to transport the first joint shipments as of February 1 2017, beginning with routes from Hong Kong to Europe. As of 2018, customers will then be able to book eastbound shipments from Europe to Hong Kong.

Simon Large, Director Cargo at Cathay Pacific, remarked of the merger: “Cathay Pacific Cargo’s move into the Lufthansa Cargo Centre is another important step in furthering our collaboration. In addition to providing more direct connections and greater flexibility, we can now offer our customers in Frankfurt the same handling standards that will lead to more efficiency and time savings.”

Peter Gerber, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo also referred to the new shared freight handling station in Frankfurt as an important milestone within the partnership. “This means our customers at the Frankfurt site are now benefiting from the advantages of our co-operation,” he remarked.
