Cargolux adds Manaus airport to its 747-8F freighter destinations

Cargo Matters
The Brazilian airport has become Cargolux's hundreth commercial 747-8 freighter destination.

Flight CV7606 became the first ever flight to Manaus using the aircraft, carrying machinery spare parts and telecommunications equipment from Luxembourg to South America. Cargolux has offered fast air cargo services to Manaus since 2012 and thanks to strong support from the Brazilian and Luxembourg governments, and long-standing relations between the two countries, Cargolux was able to launch its first commercial flight with the Boeing 747-8F to Viracopos.

Dirk Reich, Cargolux President and CEO, said: "Our new 747-8 freighter service will bring superior performance and efficiency to our customers in Manaus," going on to add that the enhanced service will enable them to carry a variety of exports, including automotive parts, perishables and pharmaceutical products, in a more fuel efficient and sustainable way.

The 747-8F is a versatile aircraft that serves 164 airports worldwide and is not only the most advanced freighter in its class, but the most economical to run, which will enable Cargolux to set new benchmarks in economic and operational performance. The company currently operates a total of 11 units of the aircraft and has another three on order.
