AirAsia Cargo to use cloud-based IT system

Tech Talk
AirAsia Cargo's old cargo management system has been superseded by the cloud-based Unisys Logistic Management System.

The new system will be implemented in a month's time and will run for a minimum of three and a half years. According to the terms of the contract, during this time Unisys will provide the core cargo system capabilities for AirAsia and its affiliates on a per-air-waybill basis, which it hopes will save the carrier money compared to current in-house IT systems.

This new cloud-based approach will see all of AirAsia's partners in centralised data system that will share processes and increase visibility. This system will also be accessible by all users from their personal computers, tablets and other mobile devices.

Unisys claims that already more than 20% of the world's cargo shipments are processed using their systems and the company's cargo products are used by many carriers who work together via the Unisys Cargo User Group. For over 20 years, Unisys and UCUG members have worked with IATA regarding such as e-freight, Cargo 2000 and XML messaging.
