Air France-KLM Cargo opens new facility at New York's JFK

New York’s John F Kennedy airport is now host to a sophisticated new cargo handling facility, courtesy of KLM Cargo.

The new warehouse has the capability to accommodate all manner of cargo, requiring various temperature levels, from pharmaceuticals and live animals to express and, of course, standard cargo.

In terms of express services, a new Express acceptance door will ensure drivers are served immediately. General customers also stand to benefit from the addition of 50% more truck dock doors and plenty of space for trailers to manoeuver, dock and park - all contributing to a speedier customer experience.

The facility's position, sharing a building with The ARK at JFK, will benefit live animal operations upon its opening in the autumn. Once in operation, this will enable enhanced levels of care for all types and sizes of live animals, offering boarding, kennels, quarantine, import, export and transportation.

Alongside its ten Active container charging points, the facility boasts a highly secure bank strong room for precious cargo, as well as ample storage capability for temperature ranges of 2-8°C and 15-25°C. Thanks to this very strong basic technology, the AF-KL Cargo facility is able to work through power outages without risk of mechanical breakdowns, while a ULD ‘roll-through’ function enables the speedy acceptance and processing of ULDs for all consignments.

Andy Newbold, Regional Director for AFKLMP Cargo, expressed optimism over the project, saying: “Together with the North East Commercial and Customer Service teams, we will be able to ensure that the unique features of our new facility will exceed the expectations of our customers.”
