Aberdeen International invests in new turnaround control facility

AGS Group and Assaia International have signed an agreement to install Assaia’s Apron AI Turnaround Control Solution at Aberdeen International airport.

The system will be a part of the airport’s digital twin initiative and will play an integral part in delivering high quality and unambiguous data relating to every process during an aircraft turnaround. Aberdeen International will use existing camera equipment to capture each turnaround.

Gareth Bristo, Head of Innovation & Continuous Improvement at AGS Airports, said: “Although it seems counter-intuitive to invest in new technology during the crisis, we strongly believe that now is actually a very good time to think about the future and prepare our operations accordingly. Assaia’s AI video analytics solution will play an important role in further improving our operational cost effectiveness, infrastructure efficiency and resilience for the years to come.”

The solution will be installed at the airport’s primary aircraft stands and automatically detect all relevant processes of an aircraft turnaround and feed this data into Aberdeen’s central data hive. Bristo adds: “The system is crucial in providing full visibility into turnaround activities for our digital twin initiative. Its 24/7 automatic monitoring and reporting capability enables us to capture all relevant timestamps and adds a level of transparency to our airside operations that is unprecedented.”

The system’s roll-out will begin in mid July and the solution will go live by September, by which time air traffic is expected to pick up again.
