The collaboration signed between Aarhus and airline will expand the airport’s traffic by more than 50%, as a large number of new international routes to European cities are established.
Consequently, Danish businesses can look forward to a higher frequency of departures between Aarhus and Copenhagen and new holiday destinations will open up to Danish tourists, directly from Aarhus airport.
Executive Vice President of SAS, Lars Sandahl Sørensen, relates several reasons why SAS has chosen to collaborate with Aarhus airport. “We have acted on the consumers wishes as well as Aarhus and Eastern Jutland’s vision to expand and invest independently. We see it as our responsibility to strengthen the logistical link between East and West Denmark, and to make the world more available for Jutland. Also, Aarhus is increasingly attractive for many foreign companies, not least with regards to the tourist industry, and we therefore believe, the city has great potential”, says Lars Sandahl Sørensen.
Mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard, also believes that the cooperation agreement is essential for the future of Aarhus Airport. “The city’s companies need proper infrastructure both nationally and internationally, so this is not just good news for Aarhus Airport, but for the entire city,” he said.
“Business in and around Aarhus requires frequent departures to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo and to meet these demands SAS is an extremely strong player. We are facing an increase of airport traffic in excess of 50%, and the new agreement therefore has great significance not only for Aarhus Airport but also the business industry and habitants of Eastern Jutland,” added Aarhus Airport Board Member, Torben Boldsen.
SAS’ new routes from Aarhus Airport will be announced in October.
