Worldwide Flight Services sells its Italian ground handling business

Has Italy proved to be a country too far for Worldwide Flight Services?

Ground handler Worldwide Flight Services has decided to pull the plug on its Italian ground handling operation and has announced that it has sold its interests in five airports to Inceptus.

Since June 2015 WFS has operated ATA, a ground handler in Italy, through its fully-owned subsidiary, WFS Ground Italy. No official reason has been given for the decision although it is known that the operating environment has been tough. John Batten, EVP Cargo Europe Middle East & Asia (and acting EVP Europe Ground Handling at WFS), commented: “We believe this development is in the best interests of all parties, and especially the ground handling customers and employees of WFS Ground Italy and ATA."

However, this is not the end of WFS's presence in Italy: it is understood that WFS is expecting to operate a new cargo facility at Malpensa this summer.
