WFS powers GSE with biofuel at CDG airport

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) will cut GSE carbon emissions by 80% at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport by replacing conventional fuel with biofuel.

Biofuel will power GSE including tow trucks, self-propelled aircraft stairs, ground power units, loaders, pushbacks, baggage belt loaders, cargo loaders, cargo transporters and air start units.

They are used to handle almost 3,000 flights a year at the airport.

WFS will consume over 400,000 litres of HVO100 supplied by Campus, which is created from waste and residues such as animal fat, industrial waste and waste water.

Laurent Bernard, Country Manager France at WFS, said: “This latest biofuel deployment by WFS in the EMEAA region will make another important contribution to meeting SATS’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) group priorities. The use of biofuel is a ‘plug and play’ solution which enables us to responsibly source a sustainable fuel without the need to modify our GSE fleet.”

The initiative follows HVO biofuel trials at London Heathrow Airport to support the airport’s goal for all airport vehicles to be zero-emissions or biofuel-powered by 2030.

Pending the outcome of powering airside transport vehicles with biofuel, WFS will phase in biofuel for its entire fleet of airside vehicles, which conduct approximately 130,000 truck movements a year for airline customers.
