Using HVO is projected to reduce the carbon footprint of dnata’s HGV fleet by 77%, cutting CO2e emissions by over 2,400 tonnes annually, the equivalent of 530 petrol-powered cars for 12 months.
The move is part of dnata Group’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.
Alex Doisneau, Managing Director of dnata UK, said: “We are committed to implementing meaningful initiatives to maximise environmental efficiency. The introduction of biofuel, such as HVO, into our UK operations is another important step in our ongoing journey to reduce our carbon footprint.”
dnata has incorporated the latest carbon reduction initiatives into the design and operation of cargo centres such as solar PV panels, air-source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging at Manchester dnata City North and London Heathrow dnata City East.
Biofuels are being used in several countries and dnata is phasing out diesel-operated engines and switching to hybrid, electric or hydrogen wherever airports have the right infrastructure.
In the Netherlands, 65% of the GSE is electric, and it is 44% in Italy, 40% in the UK and 39% in Switzerland.
