UTi Worldwide opens cold-chain facility in Rome

Handling Talk
Global supply chain provider UTi has launched a Good Distributions Practices facility in Rome, not far from Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

The new facility, conveniently located near the trans-European highway, earned the company CEIV (Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators) certification in the IATA training and pharmaceutical freight certification programme at Brussels Airport last December.

Phil Abbate, UTi global VP, pharmaceutical and health care, commented: "The CEIV Pharma cold chain certification program ensures integrity at every step of the supply chain, including temperature cargo handling and operations for temperature-sensitive cargo." He went on to say, of UTi's newest location, "Italy is the world's sixth-largest pharma manufacturer, and we positioned our Rome hub based on the high concentration of pharma companies operating in central Italy and south of the region."

According to Mr Abbate, the 18,300-square-foot facility in Rome has three temperature-controlled rooms and strict handling protocols that surpass GDP and other regulatory standards, ensuring that inbound and outbound pharmaceutical products are handled safely and securely, and that product integrity is never compromised.
