Swissport wins cargo contract with Lufthansa Group in Belgium

Swissport and Lufthansa have signed a five-year contract for cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports.

The agreement covers Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.

At the end of December 2019, Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo renewed their cargo handling agreement at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement includes warehousing and handling of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines, valid until the end of 2024.

For Swissport, the renewed agreement generates a substantial increase in tonnage handled at its cargo facility at Brussels airport, where it is undergoing a major expansion. In October 2019, the handler opened its new and dedicated Pharma Centre, boasting 3,620 square metres of temperature controlled warehousing space. its existing 25,000 square metre warehouse is undergoing refurbishment from the ground up, while a new four-storey office building is being constructed.

“We are pleased to anchor the cargo handling business for Lufthansa Cargo at Brussels airport and look forward to further growing our co-operation across our global network,” said Rudolf Steiner, Swissport’s Senior Vice President Cargo for EMEA.

Swissport Belgium, with a workforce of some 2,000 employees, handles more than 550,000 tons of air cargo per year and serves some 7.5m passengers annually.
