Swissport adds Al-Ula to network in Saudi Arabia

Swissport has added Al-Ula to its network in Saudi Arabia by providing Royal Jordanian Airlines with passenger and ramp handling services.

Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz International Airport is the sixth airport in Swissport’s network in Saudi Arabia.

Swissport is starting operations by servicing two flights a week from Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan and is expecting to serve more flights as airlines add destinations and increase frequencies.

Chris Browne, CEO of Swissport Saudi Arabia, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our high-quality aviation services at Al-Ula and are honoured by the trust our launching customer Royal Jordanian places in us.”

Dirk Goovaerts, CEO for Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa at Swissport, added: “Jointly with ASYAD Holding, our Saudi joint-venture partner, we have ambitious plans and are committed to contributing towards the Saudi Vision 2030, which will place the Kingdom’s aviation sector in the ivy-league of global aviation.”

Swissport and ASYAD Holding joined forces late last year to expand Saudi Arabia’s aviation market with Swissport planning to expand its presence in cargo handling, ground services and the lounge hospitality business.

Al-Ula is an ancient Arabian oasis and market town on the historic Incense Route which connected India and the Persian Gulf with the Levant and Europe.

In 2023, Al-Ula’s airport welcomed more than two million passengers.
