Self bag tagging for Malaysia Airlines

Tech Talk
Malaysia Airlines has announced the implementation of self-print baggage tags for all its domestic and international flights.

This initiative is designed to make the travel experience for customers faster and more efficient. Starting today, passengers with Economy Class tickets will need to print the baggage tags at check-in kiosks located around the departure level of Kuala Lumpur International airport and self-tag their bags before proceeding to the baggage drop counter.

This move is in line with Malaysia Airlines’ strategy to leverage technology in order to simplify and reduce the time for check in, giving customers more control over their travel experience. This is the first phase before the airline moves to introduce a self-baggage drop later this year. Together with its ground services handler AeroDarat, the carrier will continue to introduce new systems to modernise the travel process and ease the passenger experience. To date, many airlines around the world have implemented this service.

With the new system, the check-in process from kiosk to baggage drop counter is expected to be significantly shorter. Passengers who check in via the Web or on a mobile will also need to print their baggage tags at the 50 kiosks available before proceeding to the baggage drop counter. There will be instructions on the tag and staff on hand to educate passengers on the process. A maximum of two printed baggage tags per passenger will be allowed at the kiosk.
