SATS and Weihai Guangtai to trial advanced GSE

SATS Airport Services has signed a memorandum of understanding with Weihai Guangtai Airport Equipment to trial advanced technologies in airport ground services.

The three-year collaboration will test technologies in real-world operations, with a focus on electric GSE, ensuring they meet SATS’s needs.

Trials will start with a mid-sized electric airtug, developed by Guangtai to push or tow mid-sized passenger aircraft.

The collaboration also focuses on training, engineering and sustainability improvements.

SATS will work with Guangtai’s engineering technology centre to provide feedback on the design and manufacturing processes to improve reliability, ease of maintenance and sustainability.

Guangtai will work with SATS to equip operators and engineers with the required skills and knowledge to operate new electric technologies and existing equipment.

SATS has launched a multi-year capex management approach to optimise GSE procurement and fleet management.

It will consolidate its category management and build long-term partnerships with key GSE manufacturers to improve reliability, efficiency and total cost of ownership of its GSE fleet.

Henry Low, CEO of SATS Singapore Hub, said: “The collaboration will provide us with access to new electric technologies, specialised training and a pathway to reduce emissions, which is central to our plans to electrify our GSE fleet and support our broader goals of operational excellence and sustainability.”

President Li of Weihai Guangtai, added: “By providing advanced electric technologies, specialised training and tailored support, we are striving for building a greener, smarter and more efficient aviation industry. This partnership not only ensures mutual commercial benefits but also presents a strategic opportunity to promote the development of smart airports and foster sustainable aviation practices.”
