QAS joins IATA’s Ground Handling Council

Handling Talk
Qatar Aviation Services, the ground handling subsidiary of Qatar Airways, has joined the International Air Transport Association’s Ground Handling Council.

IATA’s GHC is responsible for providing industry expertise and guidance to all ground handling operators on the safe and efficient delivery of airline-related ground services.

QAS’ membership builds on its ISAGO accreditation, which it achieved in November 2014, a key milestone for ground service providers with aspirations to grow globally. QAS leaders have contributed to key industry forums such as the Ground Handling International Conference, the Cargo World Symposium, IATA’s Ground Operations Manual conference, the Ground Damage Database and Safety workgroups, furthering the institutional knowledge and operational improvement of all ground handling organisations.

QAS will be participating in the IATA Ground Support Equipment & Environment conference, and will share its experience as the first ground handler worldwide to introduce the environmentally-friendly and operationally advanced solid state Colibri battery technology to its new fleet of electric baggage tractors. The new Colibri battery charges quickly and lasts longer than competitive battery options for electric ground service vehicles, improving reliability and reducing energy usage, all of which helps ground service operators control their costs.

Furthermore, QAS will also contribute to the Load Control and Movement Messaging standards in support of its state-of-the-art global Centralised Load Control business that sees it produce over 10,000 load sheets per month, supporting the safety and performance of the Qatar Airways network.
