John Menzies has appointed Dermot Smurfit as independent Chairman of the group, following the resignation in May of Iain Napier.
As has been reported in the recent past within Ground Handling International, there are still calls for the group to be divided into two elements: aviation and print. Earlier this year, Menzies announced that its aviation business had witnessed revenue growth of 7%. Although its freight volumes had slipped by 2%, in contrast its ground handling segment had posted a 4% rise in profitability. Moreover, the handler has regularly appeared in the aviation press, thanks to its continued success in negotiating new ground handling contracts. Against this sector's success, however, its print media sales have dipped by 4%.
