Mumbai cargo goes paperless

Green Scene
The paperless e-freight initiative aims to eventually eliminate the vast quantity of paper documents the air cargo industry currently relies on to support movement of air freight.

Mumbai International has said that this is a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India and a GVK-led association, each having 26% and 74% holding respectively.

The e-freight initiative was launched by IATA in 2006, and endorsed by members of the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group, with the goal of replacing paper with electronic data and messages in air cargo operations. The green venture implicates air carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, shippers and customs authorities, encouraging them to streamline processes, cut costs and improve speed and reliability.

MIAL Chief Executive, Rajeev Jain, said: "MIAL is proud to be a part of the IATA e-freight initiative and it sincerely appreciates the support extended by IATA to enable it achieve this significant milestone."
