BAGTAG can now be used by passengers of the Lufthansa Group, when travelling with Lufthansa, Swiss or Austrian airlines. The device, which attaches to a suitcase or bag, uses an e-paper display that shows all relevant flight information. With BAGTAG, a traveller can check in via an airline’s mobile app for a boarding pass and baggage label. Using a Bluetooth Low Energy connection, the baggage label can then be transferred to the BAGTAG. This data is safely transmitted thanks to unique hardware encryption technology and all the relevant information is also stored on an embedded RFID chip, ensuring BAGTAG is ready for future airport developments.
The tag itself is extremely robust and has been designed with today's traveller in mind, and thus is built to withstand the impact of today’s travel. Because of the enhanced readability of the e-paper display, airport baggage handling systems are much more likely to properly scan such tags, compared to the imperfect read rate associated with traditional paper tags. Adoption of the BAGTAG could therefore reduce the risk of mislaid bags.
