Criteria for the ratings included: carbon efficiency (CO2 emissions measured against an internal DHL benchmark), engagement (commitment to CO2 calculation and reporting, along with other environmental projects), transparency (detail and quality of the CO2 data provided) and the degree of trust and co-operation.
“With its GoGreen environmental programme, DHL is a sustainability pioneer in the logistics industry. We are extremely proud to have achieved these excellent ratings and taken top spot in the ranking”, said Bettina Jansen, Head of Environmental Management at Lufthansa Cargo.
“Sustainability and environmental management are key criteria for us in our co-operation with logistics partners," commented Ingo-Alexander Rahn, Global Head of Air Freight for DHL, explaining the reasoning behind the launch of the GoGreen Carrier Rating programme. "This is the first time that air cargo was included in the rating, with Lufthansa Cargo taking top spot straight off the bat, deservedly earning the right to join the ranks of our Preferred Carriers.”
Lufthansa Cargo is currently working towards its aim of reducing specific CO2 emissions by 25% by 2020, from its 2005 baseline, while its environmental management system has been ISO 14001 certified worldwide since 2015.
